Lost and Injured

Simplifying the search and rescue process

A hiker injured in the woods

She falls 20 feet off a cliff face. She calls 9-1-1 and gives her approximate location. Responders arrive to the parking area and send a search party to find her. As the sun begins to set, the medical team begins to worry that they will not reach her before nightfall.

How can FirstNet help?

  • Allow FirstNet users to deploy a drone to sweep the area, using the coordinates identified by the 9-1-1 call, as EMS and rescue crews deploy.
  • Send live video footage from the drone live streams to responders, dispatch, and the receiving hospital.
  • Rapidly convey the hiker's location, injuries, best access routes, and other safety concerns prior to the crews' arrival. Situational awareness, extrication, treatment, and transport time to the hospital are all improved - and everyone is safe by sunset.
