Frequently asked questions
Your MegaRange questions answered
Do other carriers offer MegaRange (HPUE)?
No, other carriers can only broadcast at a max of 0.2W. FirstNet MegaRange (1.25W) is an exclusive offering for Band 14 and n14.
Do I need specialized equipment to use FirstNet MegaRange?
Yes, HPUE is only available on the Sonim MegaConnect, Nextivity Shield MegaFi 2 and MegaGo 2.
What bands does FirstNet MegaRange work on?
FirstNet MegaRange works on Band 14 and n14, transmitting with 6x the power.
Sonim MegaConnect, Nextivity Shield MegaFi 2 and MegaGo 2 will also work on other AT&T 5G and LTE bands, transmitting with standard power.
Does MegaRange work anywhere FirstNet has Band 14 and n14 coverage?
Yes, including all 50 states, DC, PR, USVI and U.S. territories.
Do I need any other equipment besides MegaConnect, MegaFi 2 or MegaGo 2 with FirstNet MegaRange?
No, you do not need any other equipment.
Sonim MegaConnect, Nextivity Shield MegaFi 2 and MegaGo 2 include a wireless router and internal/external antennas. Phones connected to these Wi-Fi routers can use Wi-Fi calling to take advantage of the extended range.
Do any external antennas work with FirstNet MegaRange?
Only certain compatible antennas work with MegaRange. Sonim MegaConnect, Nextivity Shield MegaFi 2 and MegaGo 2 are bundled with their own antennas.
Nextivity MegaFi 2 (fixed) can also be used with specific outdoor-rated HPUE antennas (omni, directional and NEMA enclosure) for additional antenna gain.
Sonim MegaConnect can also be used with the optional Parsec Dock (coming soon) for additional antenna gain.
What are the differences between Nextivity MegaFi 2, MegaGo 2 and Sonim MegaConnect?
Nextivity MegaFi 2 and MegaGo 2 utilize the Qualcomm SDX65 MegaRange modem, with support for 1.25W on Band 14 and n14, 0.4W on n77, and 0.2W on other AT&T 5G and LTE bands. It supports 1 physical SIM and 1 eSIM and includes 5G/LTE/Wi-Fi 6/GPS antennas. It also has 2 PoE Ethernet ports and an LCD screen. It is rated IP54 and MIL-STD-810G, with a -30°C to +65°C ambient temperature.
Sonim MegaConnect utilizes the Qualcomm SDX75 MegaRange modem, with support for 1.25W on Band 14 and n14, .04W on n77, and 0.2W on other AT&T 5G and LTE bands. It supports 1 physical SIM and has integrated antennas. It has a touch LCD screen and can be used in conjunction with the Parsec MegaDock for additional antenna gain. It is rated IP53 and MIL-STD-810H, with a -20°C to +55°C ambient temperature in standard power and -20°C to +35°C in high power. If the ambient temperature exceeds its range (i.e. being left in a hot car), it will lower itself to standard power.
Can the Nextivity MegaGo 2 and Sonim MegaConnect be carried on an aircraft?
Nextivity MegaGo 2 has a 236Wh battery so it cannot be transported on a passenger aircraft.
Sonim MegaConnect has an 8,000mAh battery so it can be transported on a passenger aircraft.
