Device help: Activate eSIM


Activate a FirstNet® eSIM and install it in an Apple iPad

Now that you have your FirstNet Ready® device, you can choose one of the options below, depending on how you received your device, to download your FirstNet eSIM.

DETAILED STEPS

Option 1: Download eSIM during iPad setup (used by the person unboxing the device)

1. Go to www.firstnet.com/activate - follow instructions

2. Turn on the iPad

3. Follow the setup prompts

4. When prompted for Wi-Fi connect to Wi-Fi

5. On "Cellular Plan" page, select AT&T – New Cellular plan

6. Tap Continue

7. Continue iPad setup by following the prompts (eSIM will download in the background)

8. When your device setup is complete, lock the screen, and verify your FirstNet Service is active (you should see “FirstNet" at the top left of your Lock Screen)

If you still cannot get the eSIM to download after following the steps above, please call FirstNet Support 800-574-7000.


Option 2: Download eSIM after iPad has been setup

1. Go to www.firstnet.com/activate - follow instructions

2. If the iPad is on and connected to the internet, the user may receive a notification “AT&T Cellular Plan Ready to be Installed

3. Tap the notification (skip to step 7)

4. If notification is not presented nor tapped, go to Settings

5. Tap Cellular Data

6. Tap Add new plan

7. Tap Other

8. Will then see plan to be installed

9. Window will close, will return to "Settings" screen

10. eSIM is being downloaded

11. When your device setup is complete, lock the screen, and verify your FirstNet Service is active (you should see “FirstNet’ at the top left of your Lock Screen)

If you still cannot get the eSIM to download after following the steps above, please call FirstNet Support 800-574-7000.


Option 3: Use a QR Code card

1. If the iPad is not yet setup, please follow prompts to complete setup

2. Make sure Wi-Fi is connected

3. Tap Settings

4. Tap Cellular Data

5. Tap Add a New Plan

6. “Select Carrier” screen will appear

7. Tap Other

Note: Do NOT tap AT&T, it will prompt you through a purchase flow. Your rate plan has already been purchased.
 

8. A box will pop up

9. Position the QR code in the screen

10. "Add Cellular Plan” screen will appear if QR code has been read

11. Tap Add Cellular Plan

12. The dialog will close, and eSIM will be downloaded

13. When your device setup is complete, lock the screen, and verify your FirstNet Service is active (you should see “FirstNet’ at the top left of your Lock Screen)

If using an MDM on your device:

  • Download the eSIM to the device before you install the MDM

  • Alternatively, set up MDM rules such that it allows user to take the necessary steps to download the eSIM
